English-style folk dancing does not involve any fancy footwork and all the moves are relatively simple. The character of each dance is created by the way the moves are put together. Our callers always explain all the moves for each dance and walk everyone through them first. So you know just what to do when we dance to the music.
If you do have any trouble during a dance the more experienced dancers will help you to be in the right place at the right time.
All you need is comfortable clothing and shoes without pointed heels. You will probably find it easier if the soles of your shoes are fairly smooth.
The club was founded in 1998. Initially we met at the English Martyrs'
church hall, on The Mount, and we danced to recorded music. When the new hall at St
Aelred's was being planned we supported the Lottery Fund application and moved
to the new hall after it opened in 2003. During 2004 our band formed and we now
dance to live music. The band continues to be keen to invite new members.
